A Tough First weekend for the Saracens in Quebec's A Division

It was a tough first game for both Saracens' teams as they commenced their 2010 campaign in Quebec's A division. While the Saracens 2nd team fared far better than most would have imagined, the Saracens 1st were in tough against last year's A Division champions, SABRFC.

Saracens II kicked off at 1:30pm against SABRFC II and from the get go they battled hard, and by hard I mean hard hits that sent off a few of St-Anne's bigger players. Not only did the 2nd team play a hard game, they played a disciplined game which gave them an early 6 point lead. A few costly mistakes saw St-Anne's score late in the first half which game them a 7-6 lead at Half time.

The 2nd half started the same way it ended with our 2nd team making mistakes and not being able to secure our line-outs, all this lead to St-Anne's scoring another unconverted try. All was not lost though as the teams stepped it up for the final minutes of the game and scoring with no time left. A successful convert would have won the game but the task was a difficult one as the ball was placed a foot from the sidelines, a heart breaking 1 point loss.

Saracens I kicked off at 3pm and their start was not a desired one as St-Annes scored a couple tries in the opening 10min of play. Up until the 30min it looked like it was going to be a complete whitewash by the home team as the Saracens struggled to win their set pieces, and solidify their defense. However in the last 10min of the first half the young men turned the tables and played well enough to take the game to St-Annes, 0-24 half time lead for SABRFC.

The 2nd half found many of the same situations as the first, however the Saracens were more competitive and actually put together some good drives. They managed to score two tries on a well executed penalty play. The end result 14-48 in favour of SABRFC.

There's a lot of work to be done in the set piece and on defense to be competitive in this league but the talent is there and we can only get better if we come together as a team and train HARD!!!
